It's inevitable that shoppers will bump into an error eventually on your site, either from a broken link to a page that's gone missing or because of a hiccup in the ecommerce software that powers your site.
Total Blue System merchants can now tailor these error pages (404 page for missing pages, 500 page for software errors) with direct hands-on control over the code.
- The 404 page will display when the page that a visitor is requesting (or linked to) is not available. Clear directions are given as to how the visitor may proceed. This page can now be easily modified by you and may be found in the misc directory. /misc/404.html
NOTE: The feature currently found in the Admin Area to define the body of a 404 page will soon disappear. This field can be found by using the following path: CONFIGURE > Front End Display > 404 Page Content. If you have content in this field that you would like to retain, you may copy it and paste it into the new /misc/404.html page. Plus you can add more pictures, links, or other content.
- The 500 page will display for other errors that relate to the web server or Total Blue System software. This page can spell out the options to the shopper, as you see best, rather than displaying a vague error message with no instructions on how to proceed as it does today. This page can now also be easily modified by you and is found in the misc directory. /misc/500.html
In addition to giving you more control and the opportunity for better messaging to site visitors, these configuration changes make your site more resilient to what's known as a Denial of Service attack. Related to this, there are site performance gains to be realized by making these changes.
